Description: Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is the premier treatment of choice by the NHS for the treatment of depression, anxiety, phobias post-traumatic stress and other mental health problems. CBT is not just for problem areas; it can be used for personal growth, performance enhancement and psychological coaching. It can be used to improve day-to-day functioning and happiness.
In CBT, clients and therapists work together to identify and understand problems in terms of the relationship between thoughts, feelings, behaviour and physiology. It is holistic in its approach, and is grounded in scientifically verified findings of academic psychology. Psychology methodologically and scientifically investigates the way we learn, remember, communicate, and interact. CBT uses these findings as the foundation and basis for its therapeutic approach, and combines it with clinical experience and research.
The aim of this course is to: -
- Learn about how thoughts, feelings, behaviour and physiology interact and affect each other.
- Become familiar with some quick stabilisation techniques.
- Learn how negative automatic thoughts work, and what are their identifying characteristics.
- Be able to identify and classify different types of negative automatic thoughts.
- Learn about dysfunctional rules and assumptions and what core beliefs are.
- Be able to fill out dysfunctional thought record forms to help you start to defeat negative automatic thoughts, dysfunctional rules, and start on the road to changing negative core beliefs.
- Leave the course with a self-help toolkit to utilise CBT principles in a self-help, personal growth and stress management capacity.
You do not have to divulge personal details on the course, but some interactive work between the group would be helpful, but no pressure to participate is applied. Boundaries and confidentiality rules will be discussed so that everyone is comfortable as possible. |
